Time to let the cat peek out of the bag a little bit,
here's what I'm giving you for Christmas...We're doing TWO courses at this event, and both will run at the same time! Gory details below, but in short more entries is better. So, come Monday, I'm gonna start pushing this hard on local forums (feel free to do the same... but give the regulars through this weekend to get signed up) to try to get us 50-60 entries.
What all this means to you, the autocrosser is:Minimum 5-6 runs on each course.
Short course work (1 hour... but you'll have to do it twice).
Two different courses.
Now, don't worry about the course being too short or slow, it won't be. Our typical Brooksville course uses 1600 feet of runway. Each of these courses will use 1000 feet. (there's 2400 feet available not including our usual grid area) The times should be in the 30-40 second range instead of the 45-60 second range, but otherwise you won't notice any difference in how these courses drive compared to a typical Bville course. (for reference, the usable area of SPC is only 400x600 feet!)
We'll be running smaller groups at this event so that we can have two groups on each course. So, probably 12-15 cars per group rather than the usual 18-25. This gives a smaller worker pool, but with shorter courses, we'll get by.
With smaller groups, we can get away with running a casual "just-line-up-and-run" grid. Each group will run each course for an hour. As many runs as you can get! One course will be stopwatch-timed, not recorded, and for practice only. The other course will be the "competition" course, timed as usual. May throw a curve at you regarding which comp runs count... haven't decided yet.
If the entry count ends up lower than desired, we'll simply do 3 groups rather than 4 and rotate the 3rd group through the practice course and let them work it "fun run" style.
If all goes as planned, everyone should get about a dozen runs on two different courses, and we should be DONE by 3:30pm!
Cool, huh?
