Bistream Vera Sans Mono: Monospaced heaven

I’ve poked around at most of the “Best Programmer Font” lists on the net over the last year or two and have been pretty disappointed with the results. Quite a few of the top picks are non-scalable bitmap fonts that are painful to look at. When Microsoft released the new fonts (or some of them) that will ship with Windows Vista, I had a bit of new hope until I tried them. They’re nice, but they just don’t do it for me.

I found myself back at Lucida Console, again, until today when I came across Bitstream Vera Sans Mono in 100% TrueType format. If you’re looking for a nice monospaced font for programming and such, give it a look.
