Nip this in the bud: Michelle Kosinski and Paranoia

Look, folks. Yes, there is a lot of deception in the media presented to us. This is an instance I believe is inaccurately called foul. I have a feeling this is going to spread like wildfire today on the net.

Watch the 3rd clip at the link above titled “East Coast Feed-with boat ”

Let’s get to some ideas:

  1. If you were producing and aiming for the “water so deep I NEEDED a canoe” effect, why would you pull the camera back to show the house in the background that is clearly only 2ft under water?
  2. If you were producing and aiming for the “water so deep I NEEDED a canoe” effect, why would 2 men be walking right in the path of your camera, acting like they were preoccupied and didn’t know it was happening?
  3. Michelle Kosinksi clearly states, “It’s much deeper back there.” and quips quickly, “Why walk when you can ride?” after questioned about the canoe. She then describes exactly what a later explanation confirmed :

Later, an NBC News spokeswoman explained that Kosinski had been riding in deeper water near an overflowing river down the street, but there were concerns that the current was too strong for her.

Now go watch it a few more times.

It was playful production, folks. Settle down. It was a close-up image of one situation and a very clear camera pull back with people intentionally walking through in order to give you a “Gotcha!” moment.

Stop it. Please. There are plenty of other real media/staging examples to protest. This wasn’t meant to fool you. I know, I know, you don’t believe me because you want it to be funny. These are the “cry wolf” situations, bereft of critical thinking, that make “us” look bad. Enough of them and nobody will take us seriously.
